Spring Sports

Lacrosse

The St. James boys lacrosse varsity ended the regular season with a narrow 7-6 win at Myrtle Beach Wednesday night.  A common theme for the year has been Hayes Cochran leading the team in scoring.  Hayes scored 4 more goals last night and ends the regular season with a team high 33 goals.

In his first game as a varsity player, freshman Robert Marzano scored 2 goals while Luke Costa scored 1.  Kyle Ferro picked up the only assist on the night for the Sharks.

Gavin Garboski preserved the 1 goal win with 14 saves, with 3 of those saves coming in the final 2 minutes.

The Sharks have qualified for the 5A, Division 2 playoffs and will play #1 ranked Lucy Beckham next week.

Track

The State track and field meet was held at Spring Valley High School on Thursday, May 15th. Our boys track and field team showcased remarkable talent, with several athletes placing in the top 8.

  • Logan Martinez finished 6th in the 800M with an impressive time of 1:57:58.
  • Oscar Hynes also secured 6th place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.95 M.
  • Ashton Williams-Robey excelled as well, placing 3rd with a jump of 4.25 M.

Additionally, Tommy Jensen recorded a notable time of 9:53, just 8 seconds shy of breaking the school record.

The Girls Track Team finished 11th overall at the State Championship last night. Kaylee Kearney became the 1st female Track Athlete to take home a Gold Medal at the State Championship with her win in the Triple Jump. Kaylee also placed 2nd in the Long Jump. For the Lady Sharks, the awards did not end there. Senior Lillian White placed 5th in the pole vault. Merritt Jeter placed 8th in the Javelin. Shekinah Mention, Gabby Patrick, Kaylee Kearney and Miller Arnold managed to finish 8th in the 4 x 100m relay. It truly was a night to remember. With only one senior from this group moving on next season, these athletes are looking forward to the 2026 track and field season.
