Spring Sports

Lacrosse

The St. James boys lacrosse varsity ended the regular season with a narrow 7-6 win at Myrtle Beach Wednesday night.  A common theme for the year has been Hayes Cochran leading the team in scoring.  Hayes scored 4 more goals last night and ends the regular season with a team high 33 goals.  

In his first game as a varsity player, freshman Robert Marzano scored 2 goals while Luke Costa scored 1.  Kyle Ferro picked up the only assist on the night for the Sharks.

 

Gavin Garboski preserved the 1 goal win with 14 saves, with 3 of those saves coming in the final 2 minutes.

 

The Sharks have qualified for the 5A, Division 2 playoffs and will play #1 ranked Lucy Beckham next week.  

Track

The Girls Track Team competed in the Horry County Championship yesterday afternoon. The girl's team finished in 3rd place behind North Myrtle Beach and Carolina Forest. Kaylee Kearney set a new school and Meet Record in the triple jump at 39‘3“. She also placed first in the long jump with a distance of 18‘4“. Both are now New Meet Records.  Merritt Jeter also set a New Meet Record in the Javelin with a throw of over 104 feet.
For the third year in a row, Lillian White placed First in the Pole Vault. The girls 4 x 400 m Relay Team got back on track placing 1st with a new School Record of 4:15.  Members were Marley Shuping, Vivian Schubiger, Maryn Schubiger, and Shekinah Mention.


Girls who placed in the top three in their events were as followers:
Shekinah Mention- 3rd in the 100m and 200m
Marley Shuping- 2nd in the 800 m
Miller Arnold- 2nd in the 100 High Hurdles and 400 Hurdles


Others who scored in the top eight were:  

Maryn Schubiger- 4th in the 800m

Vivian Schubiger- 5th in the 1600
Brandy Betancourt- 6th in the 3200 
McKenzie Johnston- 8th in the 3200 
Oakley Fennell- 6th in the Triple Jump (New PR 31’6”)
Shekinah Mention, Gabby Patrick, Kaylee Kearney, and Shyanne Sweetnam in the 4x100m 
Wiley Liggett 4th in the Pole Vault
Maddie Stinnett- 6th in the Pole Vault  
Paisley Knox- 7th in the Discus
Adriana Foundos- 7th in javelin
Merritt Jeter- 5th in the Discus
And Dakota Shives, Avery Rogers, McKenzie, Johnston, and Sydney Beadle- 4th in the 4 x 800 m relay

 

 

Boys 

Sharks Track and field had a solid outing in the Horry County Championship placing 4th out of 9 teams. We had 3 sharks with first place finishes: Logan Martinez in the 800, Tommy Jensen in the mile and Jefferson Sterling in Discus. Sharks that also placed in top 3 for events: Chase Linnen 2nd in the 110 Hurdles Stephen Alot 3rd in the 400 Hurdles Oscar Hynes 2nd in Pole Vault Tommy Jensen 2nd in 2 mile Sharks who also Scored Points Carter Jones in the 800 Luke Long 110 Hurdles Nehishawn Hill 400 Hurdles, Long Jump, and Triple Jump Logan Robinson Shot Put and Discus Sean Goodale Javelin Jefferson Sterling Shot Put
 

 

Softball

The Sharks are 13-0 on the region and are looking to continue the streak when we come back from break, as they have two more region games left. The Sharks currently sit 16-3 overall on the season.
