Social Studies
Students must complete 3 Social Studies credits to earn a South Carolina diploma. These must include one credit of United States History & Constitution, 1/2 credit of United States Government, 1/2 credit of Economics, and one other Social Studies credit.
The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education requires a minimum of 3 credits of Social Studies to attend a public college or university, which includes a unit of United States History and 1/2 unit each of US Government, Economics, and Personal Finance (for students entering 9th grade in the '23-'24 school year). World History is also strongly encouraged.
