About Us

Due to the over crowding at Socastee High, and the growth and development in the South beach area, Horry County School officials decided to build a new high school in the Burgess area of the county.  The county wanted to open South Strand High School but, a group of students, parents and community leaders formed a committee to select the school name, colors, and mascot.  St James High School opened to students in 2003. Our feeder schools include St James Elementary, Burgess Elementary, Seaside Elementary, & St. James Middle School.

St. James opened with 700 students, which did not include a senior class. Now St. James is home to over 1,325 students. St. James offers 6 Advanced Placement classes along with a wide variety of honors classes, boasts 6 computer labs, a media center with over 14,000 books, a 682 seat auditorium, gymnasium, mini gym, and a weight room. Our campus has 3 lighted practice fields, 5,000 seat football/soccer stadium that also include a track with 8 lanes. We also have a softball field, baseball field, 4 tennis courts, and an on campus cross country course. Our golf teams (boys & girls) plays at Wachesaw East Golf Club. In the spring of 2006, The Girls Softball Team entered the history books as they won the First State Championship for St. James High School.  The St. James Fine Arts Department competes with the best in the state and our Bands, Chorus, Orchestra, Art, and Drama students, continually receive superior ratings and win state and national honors. In 2007 St. James boasts over 20 student organizations, 10 boy sports, 11 girl sports, marching band and JROTC.

We are located on Hwy 707 West of 17 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina approximately  6 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.
